It is inevitable.  Time passes and we get older.

Depending on many factors, including heredity, mental and physical health, exposures to certain agents in the environment and occupations, our bodies will have some level of decline.

Some of us will be able to continue to live independently, but for others that no longer is an option.

Don't wait for a crisis situation to act.  Prepare now.

There are ways to plan for changes coming, like talking to a qualified licensed insurance agent about long term care insurance.   For some, if skilled care is later needed, this benefit can bridge the gap until you become eligible for other benefits.

Policies differ and it may take an attorney to decipher all of the legal terms in your long term care insurance contract.   Do not assume your policy covers something if you have not reviewed it with an attorney.
Also, before it becomes a crisis situation, you can plan ahead for the possibility of skilled nursing care by legally protecting your assets.  The federal government has issued laws and regulations on “look back periods” for the transfer of assets and qualification for Medicaid benefits.

With proper pre-planning, and in accordance to the rules Congress has given us, you can legally shelter some assets, if you timely act.  That way you are ensuring they pass down to your family in the manner you decide.  Which is why you worked so hard isn't?
